Mark worked with founders Kim and Bryan Karrick to turn their mutual love of gin into the Scratch Distillery, tasting room and Gin Learning Center in Edmonds, Washington. The project is located in a renovated mid-century grocery store building, which is also home to neighboring food and beverage companies as well as an art museum.
Central to the tasting room is a horseshoe-shaped tasting and teaching bar where guests can intimately interact with owners and staff to taste and learn about gin. The brand’s signature green, paying homage to the owners’ alma mater Michigan State University, is used carefully to strengthen the brand experience. Behind the tasting room is the production area which houses mashing and fermentation tanks as well as the distillery’s double column still manufactured by Kothe Stills in Eislingen, Germany. The work was completed while Mark was a founding principal at Urbanadd.
